Fonality Hybrid-hosted Architecture
What is a hybrid-hosted PBX?
Fonality’s phone system solutions are built on a unique patented architecture that
offers you the reliability of a premise-based system and the flexibility of a hosted
system. For this reason, it is called "hybrid-hosted." Like a hosted solution,
hybrid-hosted systems provide free VoIP calling, support for telecommuters and branch
offices, system monitoring, automated configuration backups, and easy management.
Yet, like a premise-based solution, these systems are real assets that offer rock-solid
PSTN connectivity, advanced features, and complete data privacy. Best of all, Fonality’s
hybrid-hosted solutions are available at a fraction of the cost.

Anywhere Management
Fonality’s hybrid-hosted architecture enables us to host web-based administrative
interfaces for Fonality PBXtra and trixbox Pro. This allows your administrators
and users to manage their systems from anywhere. That’s why we call it Anywhere
Management. The PBXtra and trixbox Pro Admin Panels allow administrators to make
moves, adds, changes, and deletions (MACDs); manage offices, queues, and permissions;
build and edit call menus, voice prompts, and music on hold. PBXtra and trixbox
Pro User Panels also allow users to review incoming and outgoing calls, listen to
voice messages, configure FindMe®, and run call reports if they have the required
permissions.
System Monitoring
You can sleep knowing that we continually monitor the health of your local Fonality
server for the following:
- RAID drive failure notification
- PBX software errors
- Critical services failures
- Disk space overcapacity
- Successful configuration file backups
When a critical error is detected, our monitoring system will first attempt a repair
and restart of the service. In the event this does not solve the issue, the system
will automatically generate a support ticket to Fonality’s 24-hour support center
for remedial action.
Automatic Software Updates
Fonality’s hybrid-hosted architecture allows for the consistent, real-time display
of the status of software versions installed at each site. Software updates are
transparently sent to the local server during low-load times. FonCore upgrades are
initiated by you and non-critical items show up automatically. This means we can
add features and improve scale while you sleep.
Patented Zero-Configuration Teleworker
Thanks to the hybrid-hosted architecture, telecommuters and remote workers can be
supported without special configuration. The Fonality Data Center gathers the public
IP address of the local Fonality Server so that it can be used by remote IP phones
to enable a simple registration process. Combined with DMZ/Host Server firewall
settings, this virtually eliminates problems that can occur in supporting IP phones
for remote telecommuters, while protecting the security of your organization's internal
systems.
Report Generation
Fonality’s phone systems have an extensive call data reports (CDR) system that can
optionally generate call reports from our Data Center via the hosted interface.
This allows your local premise server to focus on call processing and avoid the
CPU spikes often associated with running large local database queries. Of course,
all of your original call details are kept intact at your premises in the event
that you ever want to use a third-party reporting engine.
Secure, Private Local Data
Because Fonality’s system resides on your premise, it continues to receive and make
calls if your Internet connection goes down. Your data is also 100% private. Your
voice traffic, voicemails, and recordings are managed entirely by the local server
on your private network. Furthermore, the local server communicates with Fonality
via an outbound, encrypted VPN connection, which means you don't need to compromise
security by opening firewall ports.
